The demand from steel and smelting works for high quality steel is growing: today, the use of secondary raw materials in steel production already lies at between 30 and 100 percent depending on the production process being used. Moreover, upcoming countries, such as China, are increasing their production activities leading to an even greater global demand for the material.
With 80 branches at home and abroad, the REMONDIS Group is a leading international company for recycling scrap steel and non-ferrous metals. Each year, we return around 7,500,000 tonnes of raw materials to the market.
Every year, around 400 million tonnes of scrap metal is fed back into production cycles. This means that today, scrap metal covers 50 percent of global demand. Germany is setting a good example of how to achieve material life cycles: 20 million tonnes of old metal is recycled here every year.
