Waste paper. A raw material full of tradition.
Waste paper is not simply waste paper: the market differentiates between different quality standards that depend on the level of foreign matter contained in the paper, the purity of the product and its quality. However, there is a high demand from the paper industry for the different kinds of paper, no matter which quality is concerned. And there are two reasons for this: on the one hand, paper made from waste paper is better for the environment as recycling helps to protect the world's trees. On the other hand, using secondary materials has a massive effect on production costs which are considerably lower than when making paper exclusively from new fibres. Especially since the beginning of the 80s, both producers and customers have been increasingly taking the economical and ecological aspects of using recycled products into account.
The figures speak for themselves. Each year, REMONDIS feeds approx 2,400,000 tonnes of paper, card and cardboard back into material streams. |
