Light metal packaging.
Input equals output.

In our fully automated sorting facilities, we make sure light metal packaging is sent directly to the right place.

No matter whether it's a tin, jar lid, crown cap or drinks can: light metal packaging is, for the most part, sales packaging and so belongs in the recycling bin ("yellow bin" or "yellow bag"). Such packaging is primarily made of aluminium or tinplate and both are excellent for recycling: in Germany, recycling rates for aluminium packaging lies at 77 percent. The recycling rate for tinplate is even higher at 92 percent.

What does REMONDIS do with tinplate and aluminium?

The contents of the recycling bin or bag are first carefully sorted. We already separate aluminium and tinplate from each other during this initial stage. Following this, any foreign matter is removed from the metal and the metal is then pressed into bales strictly according to type. The bales can be used directly by the metal-processing industry without any further pre-treatment stages being necessary. They are melted down completely and are suitable as a base material for making car body components, toys or food tins.

A tin is not always used to make a new tin – it can also end up as something quite different. The advantage, especially with aluminium, is: processing this light metal requires 95 percent less energy then producing it from primary raw materials.
