The present: 2000 to today.

The year 2000 was marked by the expansion of the company's international firms – especially those in Poland and Australia. Company Partnerships were again becoming more and more important for RETHMANN within its waste management division.

In addition to this, emphasis was put on extending the company's network of facilities – especially those for treating residual waste. In 2001, RETHMANN won contracts to build mechanical biological treatment plants, one of these being from the City of Münster. Besides this, RETHMANN purchased a share in Gemeinschafts-Müllverbrennungsanlage Niederrhein GmbH (GMVA) (waste incineration plant) in Oberhausen.

At the beginning of 2002, RETHMANN Entsorgungs AG & Co. KG moved its head office from Selm, the "city of its birth", to the town of Lünen. This year was also marked by the expansion of RETHMANN Recycling GmbH in Poland. Through a series of Public Private Partnerships and the acquisition of the LOBBE activities, RETHMANN succeeded in becoming market leader in Poland.

In 2003, RETHMANN participated in Bremerhavener Entsorgungsgesellschaft mbH (BEG) – a PPP for waste and water management with the City of Bremerhaven.

The year 2004 has been noted as being the year of the consolidation of the waste management branch. RWE initiated the sale of its environmental activities. RETHMANN took over 70% of the business volume of RWE Umwelt AG making it the market leader in the German environmental services branch.

The Rethmann family, the supervisory board and the board of directors took the decision to change the name of RETHMANN Entsorgungs AG & Co. KG as well as of all other companies working under the RETHMANN name. This decision came into effect on 01.01.2005. This water and environmental service business, therefore, entered the year 2005 with the new name, REMONDIS.

By 2006, the company had once again taken on a further leading position: with its takeover of the TSR Group, REMONDIS became the largest scrap steel recycling business in Germany. Furthermore, REMONDIS succeeded in entering the Turkish market.

In 2007, REMONDIS expanded at an ever increasing rate in Eastern Europe – thanks to, among others, the foundation of the largest Public Private Partnership in the company's history in Saporoshje, Ukraine, and the takeover of the activities of the Otto Group in Hungary which meant that REMONDIS was market leader in this country, too.

EKO-PUNKT, the 'dual system' belonging to the REMONDIS Group, began 2008 with a great triumph leaving practically all of its competitors behind it. With a market share of over 20%, EKO-PUNKT is the no. 2 business among the 'dual systems' in Germany.

In 2009, REMONDIS founded a subsidiary in Pune enabling it to enter the rapidly expanding Indian water market.

REMONDIS entered the Russian water management sector in Russia at the beginning of 2010 with the foundation of a public private partnership company in the City of Arzamas. Moreover, by purchasing the company Metrowaste in New Zealand, REMONDIS added a further market to its global map.
