Alongside its many rural regions, Slovakia also has large industrial centres such as Bratislava in the west and Kosice in the east. It is precisely in these areas that sustainable solutions are needed.

Slovakia joined the European Union in 2004 and since then has made great progress in its move to catch up with western European environmental protection standards. REMONDIS has been contributing towards ensuring that Slovakians have been able to unite economic progress with environmental sustainability.

A recycling network that creates added value

One of our main activities is metal recycling. Thus the Bratislava-based company, TSR Slovakia s.r.o., is active there in the area of processing and trading in scrap steel and non-ferrous metals. Acting as middleman between suppliers and customers, the company supplies the steel industry with raw materials and also contributes towards achieving cost-effective production activities. For, melting down scrap requires 60 percent less energy than when using primary raw materials.

Initiatives for a better energy balance sheet

Slovakia is working actively on reducing the country’s level of energy consumption. And there is a good reason for this: more than 90 percent of the country’s primary energy requirements has to be imported as it has hardly any energy sources of its own.

We are present in large parts of Central and Eastern Europe wherever local authorities or companies need innovative, future-oriented waste management solutions. And so we can also be found in Slovakia.
